Central Kentucky Wildlife Hospital is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which helps rescue, rehabilitate, and release Kentucky's injured and orphaned wildlife. The facility is located in Madison County just outside Berea and serves the surrounding counties of Fayette, Jessamine, Garrard, Rockcastle, Clark, Powell, Estill, Lee, Lincoln, Jackson, Laurel, Scott, and Woodford.
Given the vast coverage area of the hospital and the number of wildlife cases seen each year it was critical for the Hospital to have a secure way to safely backup, archive and retrieve records for individual cases. These cases frequently include high-content imagery (e.g. x-rays. digital images, etc.) in addition to scanned and digitized case records. The hospital also needed a solution that allowed records to be securely shared with other hospitals, should the animal be brought in for treatment to surrounding facilities.
Turbot worked with the local IT team to understand their requirements and map a solution using cloud storage to deliver high durability for their medical records, while Turbot Guardrails cloud governance platform assisted the business team in meeting all the security and regulatory requirements they were accountable for (e.g. data encryption in-flight and at-rest). In addition, with the Hospital's current data located in various locations, Turbot Guardrails became a Safe Landing Zone when migrating all of their data to the cloud.
"There is no way we would have figured out how to securely connect all the pieces of our solution in a seamless way, but when we tried Turbot Guardrails cloud governance solution, it was simple for us to achieve our goals out of the box!" - Dr. Kevin Simmons, Founder & Owner
Turbot Guardrails simple point & click administration console, coupled with a robust identity model made it easy for the administrators to grant access to employees. Another key use case for the hospital was how to grant access to the dozens of seasonal volunteers they employee each year, and Turbot Guardrails time-limited grants system allowed them to provide access credentials that were automatically revoked at the end of the volunteers planned commitment.
